The Grades 4 & 5 English Language Arts curriculum map was developed by all grade level teachers in accordance with the Massachusetts English Language Arts Curriculum Framework. While our curriculum map highlights certain standards each month, we are aware that all English Language Arts standards are in play from September to June and are foundational within each subject. Each month we focus on specific standards for instruction and assessment. English Language Arts lessons are taught directly during the literacy block each day but are also integrated into science, math, and social studies, as well as the exploratory subjects. Through our common and integrated curriculum, we offer rich and balanced literacy experiences for our students and support all of them as they grow and develop as learners. Our curriculum maps are also dynamic and set forth an agreed upon plan for this school year. Through on-going collaboration, we will expand and revise it to better meet the needs of all children.
